Terminal Portuário (Port Terminal, BTP) was incorporated
in January 2007 for the specific purpose of building
and operating a new port terminal for containers and
bulk liquid cargos located in the organized port area
of Santos, occupying three hundred and forty-two thousand
and twenty (342,020) square meters in the area known
as "Lixão da Alemoa - Porto".
BTP
is located in the city of Santos and has an experienced
and highly motivated multidisciplinary team specializing
in Logistics and Port Operations, Engineering, Environment
and Administrative Management. BTP also has support
from top consulting firms.
The
company is part of Europe Terminal NV, an international
conglomerate with over 20 years experience of operating
ports and planning, building and managing terminals,
with presence in countries throughout Europe, Asia,
Africa and the Americas.
BTP's
parent company is providing technical and financial
support required to build its terminal in the Port of
Santos with a total investment of R$ 1. 6 billion in
environmental remediation and other construction work
in the port, which will be able to handle 1.1 million
containers and 1.2 million tons of bulk liquids per
year. Construction will generate about 3,000 jobs and
when the terminal is operational, 1,500 direct jobs,
with another 9,000 indirect jobs will be created.
The
terminal will start operations in the first half of
2012, and will have three berths for vessels of up to
9,000 TEUs. Storage tanks for bulk liquids and container
storage yards will also be built on the same site, in
addition to operational offices and other facilities
usually required for facilities on this scale (see the
project area at this website at Audiência
Pública \ Figuras public hearing / figures).
In
addition to boosting cargo handling capacity at the
Port of Santos - which is crucial for the continued
growth of Brazil's foreign trade - this key project
will ensure technical and economic feasibility for environmental
recovery of degraded areas in the Alemoa region, where
all kinds of waste from port activities was dumped for
decades, thus allowing it to be reused economically
and returned to its role as a port area.
